Ford’s New Muscle Car: The Focus?

Ford Motor Company has announced that it will be manufacturing a new performance car based on the Focus. A re-engineered and re-styled Focus will form the basis for a new global performance car. Ford has traditionally developed and sold performance cars in regional markets. The new performance car will have a global thrust. “You will be seeing an increasingly global approach to both performance and motorsports from Ford in the future,” said Derrick Kuzak, Ford’s group vice president of product development. Kuzak spoke during a Focus presentation Monday night before the opening of the Geneva auto show.

Details on the new performance Focus will be revealed in the coming months. The new Focus is slated to compete against such vehicles as the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution, Subaru Impreza WRX and Mazdaspeed3.

Jim Farley, Ford’s group vice president of global marketing said the performance Focus is intended to help change the perception of Ford’s vehicles. “Fun to drive – that is what we stand for in Europe when it comes to passenger cars,” he said. “We are not known for that in the U.S.”

The new Perfromance Focus may change that perception.
